For Battle Creek to thrive, all residents — regardless of race, gender or socio-economic background — must have equitable opportunity to gain the skills needed to secure and grow in jobs that can support a family. Also, all local businesses, both small and large, need access to talented workers.

Our goals are to increase the number of permanent jobs and provide job training to ensure all Battle Creek residents are prepared for work.

To accomplish these goals, we will:

  1. Increase the number of permanent jobs by: Attracting new businesses; streamlining regulations; attracting more government funding and involvement; encouraging larger businesses and government to buy more from small businesses; and creating public/private partnerships to build a stronger, fairer environment for entrepreneurs.
  2. Increase the number of Battle Creek residents with the skills and opportunities for employment by: Doing a better job of helping job seekers learn about job openings; strengthening transportation, childcare and other supports that allow people to take a job; partnering with employers to reduce hiring barriers; and creating partnerships among employers, nonprofits and funders to strengthen job skills and remove barriers to employment.

We know these goals won’t be achieved overnight, and we will continue to measure our progress.
